限定詞｜no

1. Nobody came to my party!
2. I looked everywhere, but I found nothing.
3. No problem. I'll fix it in no time.

no（ない）は強烈な単語。no one, nobody（誰も～ない）, nowhere（どこでも～ない）など、no を冠されたどの語句も「0だよ」という強い限定が与えられます。ゼロ・真っ黒・漆黒。そうした強いイメージの単語なのです。

no + 単数名詞？それとも複数名詞？

no は「0」。不可算名詞・可算名詞どちらにも使うことができます。

1. No water is left in the tank.【不可算】
2. No student is / No students are allowed in the staff room.【可算】

さて、問題は可算名詞の場合。no は「0」ですから、後ろの名詞は単数でも複数でもどちらでもよさそうですが、複数を使うのがふつうです。単数を使うとさらに強烈なインパクトをもった否定表現となります。
