限定詞｜both/either/neither

both, either, neither は「２つのモノ」の間の選択をあらわす限定詞です。

both

1. Both my kids are excellent swimmers.
2. I love the puppy and the kitten. Can I have both,Mom?

「A と B ２つのうち、その両方」。それが both。②のように単独でも使えます。 both A and B もポピュラーな形。

either

1. You can invest in stocks or property, but either way it's risky.
2. I have a blue seater and a red one _ you can borrow either.

either の感覚は、「（主に A と B ２つのうち）１つ１つに目を向ける」ことにあります。①は株と不動産１つ１つに目を向け「どちらでも」。②のように both 同様単独でも使うことができます。

■「～も」の言い回し

「～も」は、英語では tooと either の２種類があります。

1. I like spinach. _ I like it too.
2. I don't like spinach. _ I don't like it either.

そう、肯定の意味を添えるなら too 、否定なら either となるわけ。

neither

1. It was a deal in which neither side got what it really wanted.
2. Do you take milk and sugar? _ Neither, thanks。

「A と B 両方ともそうじゃない」。全滅。neither A nor B にも注意しておきましょう。
